Trekking in the Akakus Area

Discover Libya's northwest

Welcome to a challenging adventure tour on both the natural scenes of Akakus - Tadrart areas and the beautiful sandy beaches. Enjoy the wonderful landscape of mountains, caves and sand dunes that is enriched with pre-historical engravings, rock paintings and drawings, and discover the ancient ruins of Romans, Greeks and Phoenicians in sites like Leptus Magna, Sabratha , Apollonia, etc.

ITINERARY:

(subject to change without prior notice)

Day 1: Sebha

After your arrival at Tripoli airport, you will be met and assisted to reach your connection to Sebha (1,000 km) by flight. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 2: Awiss

After breakfast in the early morning, drive to the south west (450 km) by 4x4 vehicle (about 6 hours). Lunch in Alawynat village. Continue driving to the prehistorically enriched area of Awiss (Akakus area) where you will meet the Touareg team and  join the camel caravan. Dinner and overnight at the camp.

Day 3: Ten Tihidet

Discover the wonderful landscapes of Akakus & Tadrart areas by trekking across the natural scenery of mountains, caves and sand dunes. It is enriched with pre-historical paintings, drawings and rock arts. After lunch, continue by crossing the Wadi Adad to reach Ten Tihidet, where you will have dinner and sleep in a bivouac.

The camels are accompanying the trekking tour to carry all goods, luggage, food and water.

Day 4: Gargour - Ten Ebrogaen

Continue your trekking tour with a visit of Gargour. Enjoy the nature with beautiful views of mountains and wadies. After lunch, continue to see Ten Ebrogaen, where we will stop for dinner and bivouac overnight. Trekking: approx. 20 km

Days 5-7: Tieshwina - Anshel - Tanshalt

Visit Tieshwina, then continue to Anshel and Tanshalt. The places for lunch and dinner with bivouac overnight will be selected by the tour guide. Trekking: about 3 hours in the morning and 1 or 1 1/2 hours in the afternoon. Approx. 65 km

Day 8: Um Alma

Drive back to Alawynat (Serdeless) with a 4x4 vehicle, where you will have lunch and then continue driving to the salty lakes of Um Alma, surrounded by huge sand dunes. Dinner and bivouac overnight. Driving: approx. 370 km

Day 9: Tripoli

After breakfast, drive back to Sebha airport for your flight back to Tripoli. En route, you visit the Germa museum, the old city and a tomb in Alhatyia. Overnight at the hotel in Tripoli.

Day 10:  Tripoli

Enjoy a sightseeing tour of Tripoli including the superb National Museum, the Green Square, the Church of Santa Maria, the 18th century British Consulate, the 17th century French Consulate, the Arch of Marcus Aurelius and the mosques and souks (market) of the medina, before you are transferred to the airport for your departure flight to your home destination.
